REVIEW
There is a lot of guitar noodling throughout.
Interesting mid tempo blues version ending of Kick the Can which seems to catch Smith off guard.
Brian Fanning joins on second guitar from “Bourgeois Town” onwards which gives a different feel to the material
“Way Round” sounds uncannilly like “What About Us?” at the start. (probably because it has the same chords…..doh!!) however this is an excellent version.
“Race With The Devil” lyrics are utilised in both “Touch Sensitive” and “Two Librans”.
“Hot Runes” is a strange confection indeed with scattered guitar fragments and a growling claustrophobic intemperate feel to it. This continues with a wild version of “Ibis-Afro Man” which defies description. “Bucks” has a touch of “fallabilly” about it and MES is too low in the vocal area. Parts of Dropout Boogie are used in the song.
Matters conclude with a short delivery of something akin to but not quite “Paintwork” with a vaguely audible Ed Blaney on vocals.
